Postdoctoral teaching fellow position in Surveillance/Sociology, July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016

The Department of Sociology at the University of Alberta invites applications to the Teaching & Learning Postdoctoral Fellowship in Surveillance and Sociology for the period of July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. The salary includes a post-doctoral fellow salary as per the University of Alberta Postdoctoral Fellow Policy, plus compensation for the teaching of four half-courses over the academic year.

This position will help build a strong and innovative undergraduate and graduate teaching and learning environment with emphasis in surveillance. The recipient will be supervised by Dr. Kevin Haggerty, Killam Research Fellow in Surveillance Studies. Candidates should also be able to teach in other areas including deviance, crime and gender. Duties for this position include (1) organizing and facilitating criminology and sociology teaching seminars for undergraduate and graduate students; (2) working with the department’s two Associate Chairs (Undergraduate, Graduate) on teaching/learning and departmental service activities (e.g., planning and participating in the department’s annual teaching symposium and pro-seminar; (3) working with the Director of the BA Criminology program (a highly rated co-op that admits up to 20 undergraduates per year) on curriculum review; (4) along with other Criminology professors in the department, evaluating field placement final reports of BA Criminology students; and (5) other teaching and learning duties assigned to or taken on by the fellowship holder.

Applicants must have successfully completed their PhD within five years of the start date of the position (July 1, 2015) and be able to demonstrate teaching excellence.
